Allen F. Shaughnessy

Vice Chair for Research, Professor of Family Medicine,

Dr. Shaughnessy has been an educator in family medcine for thirty years and has been the Fellowship director since its inception. He completed his B.S. Pharm. at Temple University, Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the Medical University of South Carolina, and Masters of Medical Education at the University of Dundee. He has completed two fellowships, the Faculty Development Fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina and the U.S. Bureau of Health Professions Primary Care Health Policy Development Fellowship. Dr. Shaughnessy is internationally known for his teaching in information mastery and has taught in Canada, England, Wales, Scotland, Spain, Denmark, and Saudi Arabia, as well as throughout the United States. In 2002 he received the Innovative Program Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the 2005 Lifetime Faculty Achievement Award from the Family Medicine Education Consortium. Dr. Shaughnessy has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles on the topics of information management and medical education.
