CHA Midwives: Supporting women through every stage of life

Personalized care with shared decision-making to meet your healthcare goals.

At CHA, our Certified Nurse-Midwives provide compassionate, personalized care for people throughout every stage of pregnancy, birth, and beyond. As highly trained advanced practice nurses, our midwives offer comprehensive reproductive and maternity care—including prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, postpartum follow-up, and routine women’s health services - all within a nurturing, evidence-based model that honors your choices.

At CHA, our Midwives are an essential part of our medical staff, working closely with our Ob/Gyn doctors, Family Medicine and Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians, and our award-winning maternity care team.

  • What is a Midwife?

A Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) who specializes in:

    • Primary and preventive care

    • Pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care

    • Sexual and reproductive health

    • Gynecologic health and family planning

Midwives provide expert care, support and guidance, and are trained to recognize any complications that may arise. If complications arise, midwives work with their physician colleagues to make sure that patients get the care that they need.

Midwives receive extensive education and national board certification, maintain hospital credentials, and complete continuing education each year to ensure the highest quality care.

  • Why should I choose a Midwife for my care?

Choosing a Midwife means choosing a more personalized approach to your care. Whether you’re planning a pregnancy, expecting a baby, or managing your health at any stage of life, Midwives offer a compassionate and collaborative approach to your care, putting you in the driver's seat of your health.

  • Is delivering with a Midwife for me?

Delivering your baby with a Midwife is a personal choice. If you have a low-risk pregnancy and would like to have a more natural childbirth with holistic support, delivering with a Midwife might be the right choice for you!

Midwives care for most women during pregnancy and birth, partnering with doctors only when needed. If you develop complications during your pregnancy, we may need to refer you to one of our physician colleagues for co-management or referral.

Luckily, at CHA, our Midwives and OB/GYN doctors work very closely together and make sure you and your baby have a safe and happy birthing experience. This means you can have all the benefits of a midwife's personal care with the safety net of a OB/GYN physician, if needed.

  • Why should I consider choosing a Midwife for my delivery?

Whether you’re planning a birth at the hospital or birth center, our midwives combine the safety of modern medicine with the warmth of individualized attention. With the ability to prescribe medications, order tests, and manage care independently while collaborating closely with physicians when needed, our midwives ensure you receive safe, seamless, and empowering care from your first visit through your baby’s arrival.

Midwives are covered by most insurances, talk to your healthcare insurance provider if you have questions and are interested in choosing a midwife for your care.
