Join us for free health and wellness programs for people 60 and older. Get stronger and more mobile, boost your balance, reduce your stress and enjoy being with other people who want to stay healthy.

Classes are designed to improve your health and respect the diverse communities of Everett, Malden and surrounding towns.

Aging Wisely is run by the CHA Department of Community Health Improvement in partnership with various community service programs, the Everett Council on Aging and the Everett Foundation for the Aged.

Activities For Better Health

Many people are living longer, but may also struggle with their health. It can be hard to eat well, get enough exercise, manage your weight and stay connected with people you care about. With a few lifestyle changes, Aging Wisely can help you avoid health complications and improve how you live.

Monthly Presentations – provide helpful health information. They are based on well-known health risks of older adults, requests from participants and national health education initiatives. Presenters include CHA clinical providers and staff from community agencies. Come ask questions in a supportive space. Special topics include Living Alone Out Loud, Problem Gambling, How to Overcome Winter Blues and your requests.

My Health Game Shows – are a great way to learn about health information while having fun. Learn about mental health and other older adult health issues while playing the game and winning prizes.

Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (My Life, My Health) – helps you manage chronic conditions like hypertension, arthritis, heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and diabetes. Family members, friends and caregivers can also participate. Learn about tools and the practical skills to live better with chronic disease. Classes meet for 2 ½ hours once a week for six weeks.

Technology classes – Bring in your phone, laptop or tablet and learn how to use them effectively. Find out how you can stay connected with your friends and family and find what you need to know on line.

Gardening Club – Spend time with your friends and grow together. Share your gardening skills or learn from others as you plant, harvest, taste new varieties and make salad dressing with herbs that you’ve grown. Gardening Club members are diggin’ it! Second and fourth Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. (seasonal).

Knitting Circle – Keep your brain sharp, as well as reduce stress and anxiety while you strengthen your fine motor skills by knitting with your friends. The Knitting Circle meets monthly to knit hats and scarves for veterans and other individuals in need.

Mindfulness and Meditation – Lower your stress level, improve your focus and connect better with your inner self. Seasonal.

Lyengar Yoga Gain flexibility, balance, and strength with yoga. In a few short classes you’ll have better physical alignment of your body.

Pump Together – Strengthen your heart and your body with aerobics, stretching and strength training using hand-held weights. Increase your flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance all at your own pace and will professional support. Mondays at 11:00 a.m., Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m., and Fridays at 10:00 a.m.

Sweet Balance – Improve your balance and reduce stress with a smooth, relaxing “yoga-style” class designed for people of all levels of activity. Thursdays at 9:00 a.m.

Tai Chi – An ancient Chinese practice, Tai-Chi helps improve balance and strength. Designed for people at all levels of activity

Cardio Strength – Classes include interval and weight training designed to build strength and muscle with a cardio element as well.
