Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI was born in Mexico but grew up in Arizona in a bilingual household. I received my degree in biology from Arizona State University and international business certificate from Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain. I attended medical school at Mayo Clinic Arizona and was involved with the student run refugee clinic and volunteered as a medical interpreter at a free clinic at the US-Mexico border. I was on the Salsa dance team at ASU and started the successful Dancing Doctors club at Mayo Clinic. I took a gap year between my third and fourth year of medical school to earn a masters in mass communications from ASU. I worked on publishing health advocacy stories across print, radio, and social media. Outside of medicine, I enjoy social dancing, karaoke, ecotourism, trying new restaurants, and taking care of my house plants.

Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI was born in Naucalpan de Juarez, near Mexico City, where I grew up before moving to San Antonio, Texas when I was 12. I attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, where I spent my summers researching biomedical engineering and volunteering in clinics that primarily attended underserved and unhoused patient populations. After college, I attended Harvard Medical School, completing an MD/PhD with a research focus on craniofacial genetics and cleft palate pathogenesis. While completing my graduate thesis, I identified an interest in imaging technology and interpretation, which helped me pursue Radiology as my clinical interest. I will be completing my clinical training in the Diagnostic Radiology program at the University of California in San Francisco. Throughout medical school, I enjoyed engaging students and mentees in STEM careers, particularly in underrepresented and underserved communities through programs like HPREP. I am excited to continue my training at Cambridge Health Alliance, where I look forward to building a broad and diverse foundation in clinical medicine while making a small difference in patient care. In my free time, I enjoy powerlifting training, playing classical and flamenco guitar, and cooking elaborate dinners for friends and family.

Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI immigrated from Nigeria to the United States for college and graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology from SUNY Geneseo. There I was chosen to represent Geneseo's graduating class of 2016 as the commencement speaker. After graduation, I served as the Quality Assurance Officer for the Xerox toner plant in Webster NY. Thereafter, I attended Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Throughout my journey in medical school, through curiosity, I found a strong interest in dermatology and will be a Class of 2028 dermatology resident physician at UT Southwestern Medical Center. As a medical student, I undertook a dedicated research year under Dr. Matthew Hayden, working on the cell modeling of Darier's disease using CRISPR Gene editing. I also immersed myself in broad projects on inclusivity in medical training and patient education. Also, as an Albert Schweitzer fellow, I developed a healthcare "accompaniment" program for refugees who are being welcomed to the Upper Valley. In addition to this, I displayed my leadership skills as the president of the dermatology interest group and as the public relations officer for the Student National Medical Association chapter. Furthermore, I served as a longstanding member of the admissions committee at Geisel and have participated in pipeline efforts with several organizations, including F1Doctors, McGill Scholars program, Black Girl White Coat, and the students of color collective at Lebanon High School. In my free time, I enjoy hosting game nights, making Nigerian cuisines to keep the taste of home, thrifting, and binge watching my favorite shows or YouTube episodes. I would also love to continue learning tennis and take on digital editing/design.

  • Steven Patalano, MD

Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI was born and raised in Massachusetts to a family who has established deep roots as physicians at the Cambridge Health Alliance. My grandparents emigrated from Italy to Somerville, MA, where my grandfather, and eventually his sons, went on to practice medicine. I grew up in Winchester, MA and attended high school in Cambridge, MA. I left New England for my undergraduate education at Vanderbilt University, and returned to Boston for medical school at Tufts University. Like my father, uncle, and grandfather before me, I am extremely excited to practice medicine in the community that I grew up in. In fact, a personal highlight of medical school was working as a coordinator at the Tufts Sharewood clinic, a student run clinic in Malden, MA providing free healthcare services to underserved populations. This program has a direct partnership with CHA, and showed me the strong commitment of the CHA hospital staff to helping underprivileged community members. Following my transitional year internship, I will be matriculating to Lahey Clinic in Burlington MA for my diagnostic radiology residency. In my free time I enjoy playing ice hockey, spending time with my five pound miniature pinscher, Maverick, and fishing on Cape Cod.

  • Elizabeth Rao, MD

Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI grew up north of Boston, and I am excited to be back to serve this community this year. I attended Brown University in Providence where I received a degree in ecology and evolutionary biology and found my passion for environmental health take applicable form in medicine. After college, I worked in neuroendocrinology research, where I was enamored by the process of discovery and introduced to the world of clinical research. I have spent the past four years in Cleveland, Ohio at Case Western Reserve University for medical school. There, I found myself deeply curious about the intersection of systemic disease, environmental health, and skin disorders, and worked across our departments to develop studies investigating endocrinology, mental health and skin health. Outside of research, I spent my time in medical school building our sustainability interest group. I am thrilled to continue my training at Cambridge Health Alliance, where I am looking forward to building a strong foundation in medicine before returning to Ohio for dermatology residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland. When I’m not in the hospital, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking with my dog, Bear, trivia nights, heading to the beach, traveling, and trying new restaurants and coffee shops!

  • Nathaniel Rex, MD

Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI grew up in Providence, Rhode Island, and went on to study electrical engineering at the University of Vermont. After graduating from college in 2016 I worked at IBM and volunteered at a local ambulance service just outside of Burlington, Vermont where I discovered my love of medicine and service. After returning to Providence to attend Brown University for medical school, I volunteered with a variety of service-oriented initiatives and contributed to a number of research projects, where I cultivated an interest in both care of the underserved extracurricularly and neuroimaging academically. After my third year of medical school, I moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada for a year where I worked with a highly diverse and motivated team as a neuro-interventional research fellow, primarily focused on acute stroke intervention and evaluated resource delivery across care systems. I’m extremely excited to continue my training journey at CHA, where I look forward to providing care for the underserved in an interdisciplinary and well-rounded learning environment. I enjoy travel and almost all outdoor activities, with a particular love for skiing, fly fishing, hiking, and camping.

  • Jacob Wood, MD

Illustration of Provider with StethoscopeI grew up in Westfield Ma and traveled south for college to attend the University of Richmond where I received an undergraduate degree in Biology. After college I participated in a medical Spanish immersion program called Somos Hermanos in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. I am not yet fluent in Spanish, but I want to keep progressing towards that goal in the future. I then returned to Massachusetts to begin medical school at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School. During my time at UMass Chan, I developed an interest in Diagnostic Radiology. I find radiology to be fascinating and appreciate the ability of radiologists to make positive contributions to the care of many different patients every day. I am looking forward to developing a well-rounded clinical foundation during my Transitional Year at Cambridge Health Alliance before moving to NYC to begin my Diagnostic Radiology training at Montefiore-Einstein. In my free time I enjoy hiking, cooking, playing with my 3 cats, and building lego sets.
