How to Apply
Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Our NRMP code is 1268140M0. Your application must include USMLE scores, dean's letter, transcript and 3 letters of recommendation, one of which from a US hospital where you have completed your Medicine Clerkship/Subinternship. The application deadline is December 15.
What are you looking for in an applicant?
We are looking for applicants who have a strong interest in practicing general internal medicine, especially primary care, and a commitment to serving marginalized patients and improving the health of their communities as demonstrated by their current and prior experiences.
How do you use signaling?
We use program and geographic signals as one of many factors we consider in our holistic review of applicants. However, with the increased number of signals available in the 2024-25 cycle, we do anticipate that most of our interviews will be given to applicants from whom we have received a signal (either gold or silver).
Do you sponsor Visas/accept IMGs/DO applicants?
Yes, we consider applicants of all training backgrounds and sponsor visas for excellent applicants who match what we are looking for in applicants and share CHA’s residency program mission.
Do you have a Board score cutoff, or preference about applicants taking USMLE vs COMLEX exams?
We do not have a minimum score we require for interviews - we take exam scores as one piece of our holistic assessment. Taking and passing Step/Level 2 is not required for an interview, however it is required to be completed before being placed on our final rank list. For DO candidates we accept either USMLE or COMLEX scores.
What will my interview day look like?
Interviews are invitation only. Interviews will be virtual for the 2023-24 season.
The interview day begins the night before with a virtual “dinner” with the residents. The day begins with an introductory group session, followed by individual interviews, an informal “lunch” meeting with current residents, and a discussion with the chief of medicine and chief residents.
Please note - Background checks will be carried out by an agency on behalf of CHA. By signing the background check release form, prospective trainees are consenting to a background investigation. The drug test must be completed within 10 days of matching (all costs covered by CHA) and will be conducted at CHA Occupational Health for those residents within 20 miles of Boston. All others will be tested at an outside facility arranged by CHA.
