See, Test and Treat Saves Women's Lives Again!

For the second year in a row, CHA hosted a free day of health screenings for uninsured and underinsured women.

On Saturday, October 26, Cambridge Health Alliance hosted See, Test & Treat, a program that provides free health screenings for uninsured and underinsured women. CHA was selected for the second year by the College of American Pathologists Foundation (CAP) to offer this day of free health services for women.

More than 160 volunteers from CHA provided a one-day culturally appropriate program. Women received a pelvic and clinical breast exam, a Pap test with same-day results, and a screening mammogram with same-day or prompt results.

In one day, CHA saw nearly 80 patients, most of whom had no insurance and others had such limited insurance it created a barrier for them to receive care. "The most important piece of all of the free care that we provided is that it possibly saved several women's lives," said Rebecca Osgood, MD, chief of pathology. "Reaching these women is the reason everyone put a herculean effort into organizing this event. I can’t thank everyone enough for all they did to make See, Test & Treat run smoothly."

In addition to the cancer screenings and health fair portion of the day, patients were provided with a free meal, transportation, and bags of fresh produce to take home courtesy of Food for Free.

It was a memorable day and a true testament CHA's mission and values. Together, we brought #CareToThePeople and could not be more thankful for everyone who supported this initiative. CHA hopes to continue the program next year!
