Marcela Almeida completed her psychiatry residency in 2009 at the University of Chicago, where she remained as faculty working with the underserved communities of Chicago’s South Side. She completed a fellowship in Medical Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she was also the director of Women’s Mental Health and Reproductive Psychiatry, which included a fellowship, an outpatient, and an inpatient program with national recognition.

She has extensive experience mentoring residents and medical students, both clinically and with respect to scholarship, and has published numerous peer-reviewed papers in collaboration with her trainees that have been presented at national and international meetings. She has been the recipient of several teaching awards and other forms of teaching recognition, including the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training (AADPRT) Mentorship Award while still a PGY-2. She first joined Cambridge Health Alliance in 2020 as director of the adult inpatient unit. Her interests include women’s mental health, burnout in academic medicine, immigration, and gender and racial disparities.

Dr. Schleyer grew up in the seacoast of New Hampshire, about an hour north of Cambridge. He attended medical school at Drexel University and completed his psychiatry residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He has since completed his Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry fellowship at Cambridge Health Alliance. He is currently an Instructor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and is a staff psychiatrist in the Cambridge Hospital Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES). He has also worked in the integrated care PCBHI clinic at CHA and at the VA medical center in Monterey CA. He currently lives in the South End of Boston with his husband and pet cockatiel, Shmoops. He enjoys traveling, going out to eat, Formula 1, skiing, and spending time with his family in NH.

Simon Lejeune graduated from the Cambridge Hospital Adult Psychiatry Residency Program in June 1989. He then had jobs in different parts of the department – at Metropolitan State Hospital, on the Tuesday OPD team, and on the inpatient units. He was part of the team that started the SAU, the first DMH replacement unit and first locked unit at CHA, and then director of inpatient psychiatry. After 17 years at Cambridge Hospital, he moved to Massachusetts Institute of Technology when he continued to practice the principles of community psychiatry that he learned at Cambridge Hospital. After 14 years at MIT and 2 year stint as medical director of a intensive PTSD program at MGH, he returned to the outpatient department at CHA. He was the team doctor at the Victims of Violence program until it closed and is now on the RISE (first episode psychosis) team and the Haitian team.

His special interests are the treatment of major mental illness and ptsd, young adult development, substance abuse, and suicide prevention. He has been supervising residents at CHA since he graduated.

Outside of work he likes to be with his family, painting, baking, and being outside. Trying to be a birdwatcher was part of his pandemic survival plan.

Jess Collier grew up in Somerville and has worked at Cambridge Health Alliance for over ten years, including an eleven-year tenure in the Department of Pediatrics as a patient access representative and an administrative coordinator. She transitioned to the CHA Department of Psychiatry in 2017, when she assumed the role of administrative assistant to the Directors of Outpatient Psychiatry and Addictions at the Central Street Clinic. She has been the Program Administrator for the Adult Psychiatry Residency Program since April 2018. In the Residency Administrator role, Jess has led efforts to improve multiple training office functions including intern onboarding, resident licensing, and overall organization.
