Mental Health Services for Older Adults

Older adults sometimes face mental health issues and don't know where to turn. At CHA, our award-winning Department of Psychiatry cares about older adults, and has different programs to help with behavioral, emotional, or cognitive problems.

Hospital Care at the Geriatric Psychiatry Specialty Unit (GPSU)
Specially-designed hospital services are available at the Geriatric Psychiatry Specialty Unit, based at the CHA Whidden Hospital campus. Learn more about us here.

Outpatient Care
Expert counseling and therapy services for adults aged 60 and older - helping people deal with problems such as depression and changes in behavior or mental status. Our offices are based at the Central Street Health Center in Somerville, but we also offer a home visiting program. Depending on your needs, the service may include individual counseling, family therapy, or group treatment. To find out more about these services for older adults, call our mental health referral line at 617-591-6033.

Neuropsychiatry & Memory Center
If you, or a loved one, have memory problems, we can help. Our neurology and psychiatry team have devoted their careers to understanding memory loss and have the skills to diagnose older adults. Click here to learn more about our memory testing service.

Please note: Due to a high demand for our services, CHA is prioritizing appointments for patients who are either enrolled in Primary Care at CHA or are residents of our service area (Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Revere, Somerville, and Winthrop, MA). If you or your child do not meet these criteria, our staff may be able to assist you in finding a referral service.
