House Officers’ Association
The Cambridge Hospital’s House Officers’ Association is a legally constituted employees’ union which engages in collective bargaining with Cambridge Health Alliance on matters of salary, benefits, and working conditions. This union contract outlines: wages, holiday pay, vacation (4 paid weeks per year), conference time (one paid week per year), night call, maternity leave, sick leave, family leave, and many other issues. In addition, each fellow is provided:
- a $2,200 professional education stipend.
- Subsidized on-site parking
- Taxi vouchers to non-CHA sites as needed

- Textbooks on child psychiatry, child psychopharmacology, child psychotherapy, parent guidance, and legal issues in psychiatry

On-Call Responsibilities
Fellows are assigned 4-5 on-call weeks a year. The week starts on a Tuesday at 5pm and ends the following Tuesday at 9am. During that week, the fellow provides telephone consultation as needed to the adult psychiatry resident or moonlighter on duty in the Psychiatric Emergency room. A child psychiatry attending is available for consultation by telephone for the child fellow. On Saturday and Sunday and any assigned holiday of the on-call week, the child fellow and the attending (or “Senior On Call”) round on patients on the AAU and CAU. Each fellow covers one holiday per year.
