Cambridge, MA…Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) was recognized by the American Cancer Society for its extraordinary efforts supporting breast cancer patients, while also supporting the Society’s mission to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back. The special presentation took place at the Society's 20th anniversary Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Boston on October 14th at the DCR Hatch Shell.
The Cambridge Breast Center, based at CHA’s Cambridge Hospital campus, employs a coordinated team approach to treatment, bringing together experts across disciplines including surgery, oncology, radiology, nursing, and social work to meet the individual health needs of women. Extensive breast imaging services are available, including digital mammography, ultrasound, breast MRI, and stereotactic biopsy. The Center has trilingual patient navigators who coordinate care, provide support, and help patients navigate the complexities of modern cancer treatment. It was also the first breast center in Massachusetts to be endorsed by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
Diane Lockhart, MD, director of the Cambridge Breast Center, accepted the honor, presented by Don Gudaitis, Executive Vice President for the American Cancer Society, and Peg Camp, Chief Operating Officer of the American Cancer Society New England Division. CHA was one of eight Massachusetts breast health facilities recognized and celebrated by the American Cancer Society at Making Strides in Boston for their dedication and commitment to serving breast cancer patients and caregivers.
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end cancer for good. As the nation’s largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.8 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, 13.7 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year.
